Jake Paul not interested in Tommy Fury for next fight, wants ‘bigger name’

The idea of fighting Tyson Fury’s brother no longer interests Jake Paul. 

Following Saturday's knockout of former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, who replaced Tommy Fury on the card, Paul said he will choose someone new for his next Showtime pay-per-view bout. 

“Most likely not Tommy. I kind of want someone with a bigger name,” Paul told USA TODAY Sports+ during an exclusive interview Wednesday. “We’ll see how all the stars align, but I’m tired of carrying all these pay-per-view buys by myself.”

Paul (5-0, four KOs) said he doesn’t have a front-runner choice in mind for his next opponent and is anticipating some time off following the holidays after fighting four times this year. 

The 22-year-old Fury (7-0, four KOs) offers the profile of being heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s younger brother and starring on a reality television show in the U.K., “Love Island.” 

But after being originally selected as Paul’s opponent atop the Saturday card in Tampa, Fla., Fury was a no-show at a November introductory news conference in Las Vegas and then withdrew, citing a rib injury and chest infection.  

Upon Paul delivering a vicious knockout of Woodley, Fury's promoter Frank Warren said his fighter would be ready for Paul next year. 

Paul said he’ll plot his career course in the new year. 

“I’m exhausted – mentally, physically,” he said. “I need to take some time with my family.”
